Fu Lin Tou Fu Yuen

We chance upon this yummy Yong Tau Foo place one morning and were pleasantly surprised with how yummy this is. Unlike most Yong Tau Foo Stalls in Singapore where the dried version is blanched in water then served with a mix of sweet sauce, this version is fried and served with a soy based minced meat sauce.

The food here include the usual Yong Tau Foo slections fish balls, crab sticks, bittergourds, cuttlefish, ladies fingers, Capsicums, Chilies and Vegetables. The bean curd and soy base items are huge and three of us ends up with a huge serving though we just choose 5-6 items each.

We get to choose Thick Bee Hoon and Bee Tai Mak to accompany our Yong Tau Foo and love that their version is served with a savoury minced meet and soy base sauce topped with spring onions, pepper and fried shallots.
Bee Tai Mak / Lao Shu Feng (老鼠粉) in savory sauce
We select a giant fish cake, capsicum and mushroom stuffed with a mix of fish and mince meet paste fillings, dumplings and ngohiong. The texture of the fish cake and tou fu are great. According to our friendly server, selections here are all made in house daily and no MSG is used.
Our selection of Yong Tau Foo

Capsicum taste superb with the meat and fish paste fillings.
The nice people here give our boy a separate plate with just a tiny bit of sauce.
Our kid's selection of fish ball, fried bean cud and fish cake with fish and cuttlefish fillings
I choose a small piece of vegetable and they cook up a plate for three for us .The vegetables is cook just right, not too crunchy or overcooksed and the sauce and fried shallot make it so tasty I can eat a whole big plate all by  myself.
Healthy vegetables
I like Fu Lin's version of the NgoHiong, which is not too meaty and doesn't feel oily at all. The mushroom carrot and water chestnut is cut just right so you can still fill the bits and texture.

The Yong Tau Foo is not the kind where you get sweet tomato sauce mixed with the dried

Neptune Hong Kong Snacks at Marine Parade Central

We used to visit this Dim Sum Place at Marine Parade years ago when we were working near the area and stop going for a couple a years as we got busy with other things. It turns our the food taste better than we had remembered and they have made a few changes with their menu as well.

Good Dim Sum at unexpected places
A welcome addition is the mini-egg tarts which got to be the best we have tried in Singapore. The crust is crumbly and flaky and the filling inside melts in your mouth. We happen to have it once when it was right out of the oven and the feeling of having a bite is simply heavenly. It is even better than the ones we had at Fei Chui, Not so surprising as the owner used to be a Dim Sum chef from Hong Kong.

The yummy Mini Egg tarts

The Lotus Leaf Rice goes not feel oily but is soft and moist.

Thai Kitchen BBQ Steam Boat

Sometimes, you can find nice Thai food in unexpected places, like in those food places in industrial areas. It is usually very crowded on week days, but for a week end dinner casual dinner, it means easy parking and beating the crowds.

This gem of a a eatery in an industrial area in Kallang have some of the better Thai food we have tried. It has a great honey chicken and rich and aromatic green curry. The tom yam soup is almost like the ones we have at Koh Samui.

Yummy Seafood at Jimbarang Bay

This is the ultimate place for a romantic dinner. Your dining table is on the beach, on the sand, The waves just steps away. Musician planing and singing, candle light dinner. Delicious seafood grill over sugar cane....

Just a short 10-15 mins ride from Kuta, Jimbarang Bay is one of the must stops for dinning in Bali. Prices can be expensive though, especially if you let a tour guide/driver sent you there. Friends who had wanted to go to a particular restraunt there got guides who told them they don't know which one it is and end up at the same expensive place I went. So, if you have resturant you want to go, try calling up the place and see if they will sent a driver to you and sent you back FOC. Many restraurants and spas provide such services in Bali

Fresh coffee at a plantation

On the way back to Kuta from Kintamani, our tour guide brought us to a plantation where we were serve free drinks as we seat looking at the greenery of the plantation.

It was still drizzling and the hot Balinese coffee and herbal drinks were a wonderful treat for us. We had Bali Coffee, Hot Cocoa, Ginseng Coffee, Lemon grass tea and ginger tea. The hot cocoa is extremely rich and my 3 year old immediately fell in love with it...his charm won him a second cup quickly. The ginseng coffee has a distinct aroma about it and till now, I regret not buying the powder when I had the chance. Oh, and for smokers, they offer free tobacco leaves which you can wrap in a piece of paper provided and smoke like a cigarette.

I think we must have spent at least an hour there, enjoying the rain and the view of the plantation in the rustic settings and enjoying our hot and freshly make drinks. hmmm the feeling is heavenly.

Nothing in life is free and after the free flow of complimentary drinks, we were invited to look at their fresh products. Their specialty is this coffee call Luwak, which cost Rp30000 (S$4+) a cup. It is an extremely rare coffee and those who had tasted it describe it as being " heavy, rich and strangely complex with hints of chocolate, old wood and hazelnut." Tempting? Well, after finding out about the production process, non of us dare to give it a try.

Coffee Luwak is the result when coffee berries are consumed by Asian Palm Civet and the beans were passed out undigested. The enzymes of the civet's stomach supposedly break down the coffee's protein and add to the flavor of the bean...

Bebek - Crispy Duck

The famous Bebek is a must try dish for those visiting Bali for the first time. The more famous and authentic place to try this is Bebek Bengil or (Dirty Duck Cafe) in Ubud. However, the tour that was included in our package included the same dish at a different restrautant in the same vicinity.

It is still an enjoyable experience. Padi Prada is a lovely place with vines dangling from the roof top. It is a pleasant meal with a nicely presented set and a soothing view of a padi field right besides the hotel/restaurant.

The meal Prada Crispy Duck Set Menu, which include:

Appetizer:
Serombotan “Klungkung” (Urapan sayur Bali – boiled fresh vegetables and spice lime sauce & shrimp paste )
Soup:
Cream chicken corn soup
Condiments:
Traditional Balinese chili sauce, cracker and hot chili sauce.
Main Dishes:
Flavored Balinese Rice
Balinese sate lilit
Balinese crispy duck with 3 kind of Balinese sauce
Steam fish in Banana leaf (pepes Ikan)
DESSERTS:
Seasonal fresh fruit
Mineral Water

The duck is a little dry. and the soup is rather salty. But hey, it's crispy duck!
I totally enjoy the duck,so did my 3 yr old. All of us love the crackers. The stem fish and satay that is slightly spicy so we help . The chilli is good too.

Hmmm will give this place 4 stars out of 5 for this place.
